The rains came in last weekend and we had a good storm Monday and Tuesday, clearing up for my golf on Wednesday. It started up again on Thursday and continuing in to this weekend. We have a break right now with more coming in late tonight into tomorrow.
We had a good week this week at work. One of the teams was in charge of our Halloween celebration and they borrowed a game from Hollywood Game Night on TV (I hadn't seen it). The game is the passenger gets in the car and the driver asks "Where are you going? The passenger them gives hints like, "It has golden arches and sells hamburgers." The office broke u into two teams and Pete and I were the drivers. It was fun and very creative and the team did a great job on the car. The day of the party I had a conflict, so we moved up the game portion to the morning and I had to miss the potluck lunch which was a taco bar. I had a golf event with Gary at Serrano. I actually would have passed on it, but we were playing with two of our larger insureds, both of which have accounts over $100,000 with us.
We played in a four man event where we used the two lowest scores out of four. We shot a 133 (9 under par) n the money started at 128. One of the guys was a 23 handicap. I shot schizoid as usual and had a 41+46=87. I had a great time with the group and enjoyed hearing about each of their businesses. I enjoyed the day, although I had given blood in the morning at a blood drive at work so had a compression bandage on my left arm that I had to play with.
I am heading to the Sacramento Kings game tonight at the new Golden One Center in downtown Sacramento. Pete and Wendy in the office are splitting season tickets this year and it is Pete's game this weekend. His wife, Vicky, is visiting their daughter in Virginia, who is returning from deployment with her helicopter unit in Bahrain this weekend. Pete and I will meet at Morton's Steakhouse tonight at 5:30 for dinner before the 7:30 game. I wanted to get to the arena early to check out the new space. I'll have pictures and details tomorrow.
I wanted to start on the blog early as I leave for Detroit Tuesday morning and the Dallas game is on Sunday Night Football this week against the Eagles. I will work on the blog a bit during the games tomorrow.
I had one of those days at work yesterday that I hate. It was all drama. one of the girls is having some problems in her relationship and was emotional all day. Another one was stirring things up with regards to me getting ready to let someone go. I talked to her one an one and told her that the only job on the line was hers and she needed to zip it. The final issue was with someone who was taking excessive sick time and causing issues with her team. I'll deal with that on Monday. Lord, give me strength.
You can see pictures from the IFly event that I attended on Thursday. I was invited to come out to visit the facility and hear about corporate outings at the location. I was also chosen to fly. I probably wouldn't have gone to the event if I wasn't going to fly. Darla came out and met me and took pictures. You spend about thirty minutes with your instructor, watching a video and learning the hand signals that are necessary in the chamber because of the loud buzz of the wind. You have a helmet on, a jump suit, goggles and ear plugs, so have to be able to communicate. I got two sessions of two minutes in the chamber. It doesn't sound like a lot of time, but it is when you are in there. I learned the ropes on the first go and then the instructor took me up about forty feet into the chamber and I had a chance to do some spins. It was fun and I will consider it for the staff, BUT the cost will have to come down. Right now, they want $50 per person and you can get a $39 certificate at Costco. I have 27 people, so good luck with that. I need to go out and work on the yard, so will be back at this tomorrow.
Back at this today. Last night was fun with Pete and the new $560 million stadium in Sacramento for the Kings and other events is spectacular. Pete's tickets are up in the nosebleed seats which gives you a nice view of the entire arena, but is tough for watching basketball. The arena itself is right downtown and built really close to the old bus station and an area that was ripe for renovation. New restaurants have sprung up, there is a new housing development going in within blocks and the downtown area has been revitalized.
Pete and I met at Morton's Steakhouse and had appetizers in the bar area before heading over to the stadium which is only one block over. We had filet mignon sliders and short rib tacos. Pete had an IPA and I had a Stella. We visited for a bit, talking to the bar manager and the General Manager, both of who are friends of Pete and Vicky. Vicky is in Virginia and is visiting with her daughter, who returned today from a Tour of Duty in Bahrain.
I was very impressed with the stadium. They have built it with an inside//outside feel and it has large glass doors that open up to the exterior on nice nights. I was surprised that the doors were not open Saturday night, but rain was in the forecast. In point of fact, the rain did not come in until this morning when we got a good soaking. The facility has both suites and mini suites, but they have built the suites such that the main concourse is open to both the outside and to the arena itself. They've also moved a few of the iconic Sacramento neon signs into the facility itself. There are local restaurants with a presence inside the arena with sushi, pizza, Mexican, steak and Italian represented. Very nice.
I am off to Detroit early Tuesday for our Managers meeting. It is always a long week with meetings starting at 8 AM and running until about 6:00PM, followed by dinner and then a mandatory stint in the hospitality suite. I fly out at 4:30 on Saturday and get back to Sacramento at almost midnight.
Well, this is it for this week. I will be back at the keyboard on Sunday with exciting tales of the annual meeting Have a great week and be nice to each other. Ciao.
